Difference Between a Tasting Room and a Bar

This is asked a lot. A tasting room is where you are served something that was made locally by the tasting room. In our tasting room we give you five tastes on a small board. Right now we have 5 whiskies, 5 rums, and a lot of moonshine. So you come in, and you pick which flight you want to have. You choose from a whiskey flight, a rum flight or a moonshine flight. Each person should get their own flights. We don’t like to mix a rum flight with a moonshine flight or rum with whiskey you get the idea. So you choose your flight and the person behind the counter pours that for you.
In a bar you could order a shot, or a cocktail, a beer whatever you want to drink. They are a different kind of license than a tasting room. People get all bent out of shape when we won’t just make them a drink, we try to explain why we can’t and they usually don’t believe us.
There are tasting rooms that can serve a cocktail but they have a different license than we do. One of the rules for that is, they have to have 3 food items available to them to purchase and eat if they want to. It has to be something substantial not just a candy bar or popcorn. In a bar or a tasting room kids are not allowed at the bar at any time.
If you come in to do a tasting and you don’t like something don’t make a big scene. It makes you look dumb and everyone around you feel bad. You will get a lot more out of your server if you treat them with some respect and courtesy. In our distillery we have one guy that owns the place and he makes the booze, and we have one person that runs the tasting room. So when you are making fun of us because it is moonshine, and who would drink that we take it personally. Please come in with an open mind and try what we have to offer, I believe you will be surprised.
